Feather River Plastic Surgery

Botox® is an FDA approved purified protein that blocks the transmission of the nerve pulses to muscles preventing them from contracting. When the muscles cannot contract, the wrinkles in the overlying skin smooth out and the skin looks more refreshed. Botox® is used in the forehead, between the eyebrows and the crow’s feet (or smile lines) beside the eyes. It is administered to the appropriate area after the area is numbed in a simple office procedure. The effects take several days to develop and last for several months. As the effects wear off, touch ups can be performed to keep wrinkles under control. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women surveyed rated the improvement of appearance of frown lines between their eyebrows as moderate or better at one month after treatment. At Feather River Plastic Surgery we have special Botox® days when we perform Botox® treatments. Call for more information or to schedule your appointment.

Injectable Fillers

There are many fillers on the market and we offer two, Juvederm and Sculptra which work differently.

Juvederm is a clear, biodegradable gel that is injected into the skin. It replaces the volume, that, when lost, makes wrinkles, depressions or other contour deformities of the face. When injected, they fill in and smooth out wrinkles and folds—for example the parentheses along the side of the nose and mouth or the creases between eyebrows—restoring natural volume and creating a smooth natural look and feel. Juvederm works immediately and then is gradually absorbed. Usually the correction lasts for several month to a year for most people. A simple office procedure is all that is necessary and we use Juvederm which contains a local anesthetic as well as a topical anesthetic to make it as comfortable as possible.

Sculptra is also injected into areas lacking volume but it acts by stimulating your own collagen and therefore takes a few months to make a noticeable change. However, it tends to last longer—up to several years. It also works well in larger areas such as the cheeks which tend to deflate as we get older. It is injected in simple office procedure and we use a local anesthetic to make it as comfortable as possible.
